As AI continues to drive the next wave of digital transformation, boards are increasingly shifting from a ‘wait and see’ approach to ‘careful adoption’ in incorporating AI in technology and data used throughout departments and processes across the organisation.
AI requires a new level of due diligence including for privacy & security, ethics & regulations and processes & policies. In addition, new AI-driven features need to be checked for good fit with functional needs and alignment with, or redesign of, internal processes.
Govrn & Brunel University Business School
GOVRN, the AI-First Board Management Software platform, is delighted to have the opportunity of collaborating with Brunel Business School in the study and publication of a Boardroom AI Adoption Whitepaper. The whitepaper will serve as the foundation to establish guidelines for AI utilisation in boardroom settings, production of a set of Boardroom AI Assistant System Guidelines and a policy report on AI Adoption for Board Governance.
The study will be conducted in two parts:
Research & Analysis
A Working Case Study.
Research & Analysis
The research plan includes interviewing senior members of the board community from organisations of different sizes across the private, public and third sectors. The interviewees will be in specified board community roles include Chair, CEO, Non-Executive Director, Board Secretary, Board Advisors and Governance Professionals.
The research seeks to understand their motivations, challenges and identified potential technical solutions to adopting AI systems in supporting effective meetings, board insights, board governance & compliance and other board functions. The research also aims to establish the improvements incorporating AI into the boardroom technology stack can make compared to non-AI technology configurations and standards.
Working Case Study
Brunel Business School will produce a case study based on the use of Govrn’s AI-Engine in the meetings and operations of boards and committees to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and overall impact of AI features. The areas AI will be assessed includes:
- Meeting Lifecycles
- Board Information Management & Insights
- Board Governance and Compliance
- Overall Efficiency and Productivity
- Security and Privacy
- Understanding Board Data and Board Questions
- User Experience and Adoption
- Impact on Board Effectiveness
The Govrn AI-Engine
The Govrn AI-Engine is the result of two years of research and development culminating in a system designed for the boardroom. Utilising the foundation of Natural Language Processing and Generative-AI, it is trained to think like a board member or board secretary. It has the power to understand specific pieces of information and objects to multiple levels including the context and relationship between these and related data.
The quality of the data is key. For the Govrn AI-Engine, the source is the data and information present in the boardroom, often already in digital form. Combining the training with Generative-AI creates a platform that understands the data, how the board community derive knowledge, understanding and benefit from the data, and an interface that enables interaction and results much greater than just intelligent search.
Integrated with purpose-built functionality, this is the new technical foundation to support multiple pillars of board effectiveness.
